The food is gone, the dishes are done, and the votes are in! The winners of the 3rd Annual Lane County High School Culinary Competition were presented with medallions, donated by the Oregon Sheep Commission, Monday May 2nd at the Lane Community College Center for Meeting and Learning.
Eleven teams of high school students, working with local professional chefs, prepared and presented entrées featuring rack of lamb and a dessert featuring locally grown hazelnuts. The lamb was donated by Reed Anderson, owner of Anderson Ranches. Judging was done by a panel of local celebrities and professionals in the culinary arts field. “It’s great to have local product used in the competition!” states Mark Wreath, Project Coordinator for the Lane ESD. “I make an effort to contact local companies for product donations and sponsorship to help with the event.”
Each team had 60 minutes to prepare, cook, and serve two taste plates and one show plate. Teams were judged on sanitation, knife skills, teamwork, presentation, and most importantly taste!
Dennis Nakata, Magic 94.5, began the awards banquet with recognition of:
